Why We Love Litchfield Park
Litchfield Park is a city in Maricopa County, Arizona. It had a population of 5,476 according to the 2010 census. The town of Litchfield Park is named for its founder, Paul Weeks Litchfield. He was an executive of the Goodyear Tire & Rubber Company who came to the Phoenix area in 1916 in search of suitable land for cotton farming.
Litchfield Park is only 2 miles north of I-10 and 16 miles west of central Phoenix, the historic center of the Southwest Valley. It offers a unique history and attractions to the local landscape.
The Wigwam Resort hotel is a four-star establishment and a highlight of Litchfield Park. It was originally developed for Goodyear executives visiting cotton farming operations in the area. Luke Air Force Base is 2 miles north of Litchfield Park. It is the largest training facility for F16 fighter pilots in the world. Additionally, many Litchfield Park residents are retired military personnel. As for scenic attractions, White Tanks Regional Park is located to the west of Litchfield Park. This beautiful area got its name from natural rock water tanks once used by local Indians. The Estrella Mountain Regional Park in the south has 19,000 acres including a golf course, camping, hiking, horseback riding, and picnic facilities.
